HISTORY

St. Philip’s High School was initiated by Rev. Fr. Firman Jans OFM and Rev. Fr.  Alban. M. Nobet OFM, Cap. The building steps were taken by Rev. Fr. Victor John  OFM , later it was inaugurated by his Grace Archbishop Simeon A. Pereira .  Archdioces of Karachi on 8th December 2001. 

St.  Philip’s school morning shift was then set-up by Rev. Fr. Victor John OFM , with a  motive to establish an English medium school that provide equality education not  only to the Christian children but to all the children belonging from different  castes and religions and this motive was later carried out by Rev. Fr. Ilyas in the  year 2002 by appointing qualified teachers. 

St. Philip’s High School has been running two shifts both Morning and Evening. The school building initially had 2 floors, ground floor and 1st floor with three  classrooms on each floor, including a science lab and a computer lab. the first  principal of St. Philip’s High School morning shift was Sir. Faryad and there were 100  studentsin the school. He served for one year. Then Fr. Ilyas signed a contract with NDIE (Notre Dam Institute Of Eucation) for  the provision of supervision and guidance to improve academics. The  representatives of NDIE trained the teachers through different training programs  and workshops.  

The present principal of St. Philip’s High School ,Mrs. Akhter Albert , was serving as  Co-ordinator in the morning shift under the supervision of Parish, the  administrator was Rev. Fr. Gul Daniel OFM. Gradually the number of students increased and the school  required more classroom. In 2005, Rev. Fr. Gul Daniel OFM started to build  classrooms on the 2nd floor, there were four classrooms on the second floor  initially.

There were no separate rooms for the account’s office and administration office,  a common room was used for both purposes. In the year 2008, Rev. Fr. Victor  John OFM was again appointed as the administrator. He added more classrooms  to the 2nd floor and also constructed a separate account’s department. The school  ground had a garden for kids which was later transformed into a basketball court  and the construction of Grotto of Mother Mary in school premises was done  under his supervision. 

In 2008, Catholic board of education Karachi, for the first time Mr. Imran Yousaf, was appointed as a principal of both shifts. He played an important role in the  academic development and capacity building of teachers. He served for four years  under the administration of Rev. Fr. Victor John OFM. 

In 2012, Catholic board of education Karachi appointed Mr. Ivan Issac as a  principal of both shifts. He was a specialist of mathematics. His focus was the  betterment of classroom teaching and students – teacher interaction. He served  for two years. 

Due to the sudden death of Mr. Ivan Issac, in the year 2014 ( till dated ) Catholic  board of education Karachi appointed Mrs. Akhter Albert as the principal of St.  Philip’s High School Morning shift and was later appointed as a principal in St.  Philip’s high school afternoon shift as well under the administration of Rev. Fr.  Bernard Bhatti OFM. Mrs. Akhter Albert focuses on the lesson – planning the  implementation of 21st century teaching skills, integration of National curriculum  and activity based learning under the guidance of CBEK.  

Under the administration of Rev. Fr. Bernard Bhatti OFM, the Montessori section  was further developed, the installation of CCTV camera and the raising of  boundary walls was done. During this period there was a great increase in the  admission. 

In the year 2017, under the administration of Rev. Fr. Saleh Diego a major water  supply problem was resolved. During this period the financial status of school  improved. The installation of modernized system of CCTV cameras and security  system was further developed.

Since the number of students increased over the period of time there was a need  of separate block for classrooms, in the year 2019, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Shahzad  initiated to design the structure for building a new block. But due to covd-19 crisis  there was a delay in the plan. Fr. Benjamin focused on the character building and  spiritual formation of students and teachers. Major renovation work was done  under his supervision.  

Presently there are more than 600 students in St. Philip’s High school morning  shift and more than 200 students in St. Philip’s high school afternoon shift
